A questions for my friends who have Friends Only journals.....

I've been considering going Friends Only, but honestly, I'm not sure why I would. Is there a particular reason you guys went Friends Only? I'm curious.... lol

And I'll post some icons later this week, I've been running around trying to get my kids ready for school. They start back August 9th, then I'll be freeeeeeeee again! Yeah!!!

I went friends only for a while. A woman in my husband's office had a journal and she was on my f-list. Well, every time I posted something, she'd have to go into his office to tell him about it. It was no big deal, he can read my journal if he wants to, but she was driving him nuts. So I unfriended her and locked my posts.

She's gone from his office now, plus she never posts, so I felt like I could make public posts again. That's one of the things that annoys me about LJ. There's no function where you can keep one person from reading your journal. You can keep them from posting, but not from reading.

On a happier note, 300 on DVD today!! *points at icon*

Oh God, I can see how that would annoy your husband. Good thing she's gone. And yeah, my hubby doesn't care about what I post, but I'd still hate to have him find out everytime I posted something, considering how much I post, he'd go crazy too. I'd certainly say that was a good reason to go FO.

How do you go FO, btw? Do you have to make each entry friends only or is there one setting to make the whole journal private? I'd truly only make portions of my journal private and keep my graphics public. One of my major pet peeves is someone who posts their graphics publically with a preview, such as on a community, then underneath saying you have to JOIN or FRIEND them to see the rest. Excuse me, but if you're posting publically, your graphics should be public, period. I've never and never will friend or join something just to get a look at their stuff, so I'm not going to force people to do the same thing. After all, why am I posting on a public community it if not for everyone to view? *hops off soap box* Sorry, had a bitchy moment...

Thanks for replying, if I can figure out the ins and outs of how to do it, I'll decide what I want to do and when I want to do it. (if that makes sense ;) )

Peeks at your icon...whooooo....now that'll wake you up in the mornin'! I'm going right out and getting it today, I can't wait! YEAH!!

Here's the FAQ on all the Friends Only stuff.

I didn't bother with a banner or blanket FO. I just did it entry by entry.

I hear you on the 'join my communty to see the rest of my stuff' thing. Seems a bit ridiculous, since you're posting it anyway. X-D

I'm stopping at Target tonight and getting 300!! w00t!!

Oh okay, good. I read that over and it makes sense. Although, it appears to be too much work for a nickle, IMO. I guess it depends on if you get a flood of friend adds from people that have no interests or anything. I don't have to worry, I don't exactly have to beat them off with a stick. LOL!

Cool! I hit Best Buy and got the full screen AND the two disc special edition that comes in a big box with a cool helmet statue! I can't wait to sit down and watch it on my big tv! ;)
rdhaht on July 31st, 2007 07:23 pm (UTC)
Oooh, I might stop there instead. I DO want the two disc SE, and I doubt Target will carry that one.

*looks at clock* Hurry up 4:00!!
Crazy Cheeky Girly Geek: Leo desiregreeneyedmissy on July 31st, 2007 07:28 pm (UTC)
Yeah I didn't even want to risk going to Target for that reason. Best Buy had plenty although they only had two left of the box with the Helmet statue. I hope you'll be able to find it!

Plus I'm a lazy bitch and Best Buy is easier to get to! :D :D

LJ will let you customize who can read your posts. You just have to group people and then either make them private or public and when you post an entry there is an option for custom and just click on that and tick which group and that entry will only be visible to that specific group. You have to go the manage custom friends section and go from there.
rdhaht on July 31st, 2007 05:40 pm (UTC)
But you're still limiting the people who can read your journal to the people on your f-list, right?

I didn't care if anyone else read my LJ, even those NOT on my f-list, I just didn't want HER reading it and then driving hubby nuts with my latest post. >_< I'll have to go back and read it again...maybe I misunderstood.+

Eh I’ve thought about going FO, but in reality I don’t really have that much to hide, plus my life is pretty boring. Yeah I try to keep the ramblings down, but sometimes they get the best of me. :)

You can group people into custom groups and only allow those people to read certain posts. You have to go the manage custom groups section and make a group and place people into and you are done! You just have to remember that when posting an entry you click on custom and tick the group and it will only be visible to those in that group.

I'm with you, I don't have too much to hide either. I guess I was curious as to why people do, but I figure they must end up with net stalkers and such. That hasn't happened to me (knock on wood), so I suppose I'll just keep it open or at least decide on each individual post. I know I'll keep the graphics public. ;)

If you feel you have to go FO, then so be it, but if you have no trolls on your back, then it's okay :)
Crazy Cheeky Girly Geek: gerryinbluegreeneyedmissy on August 6th, 2007 02:05 pm (UTC)
I'm relatively new to LJ, so you'll have to explain to me what a "troll" is. ;) Yep, I feel totally ignorant, sorry. I've heard the term but wasn't sure what it meant exactly. Am I to assume that's like a stalker?
Hatshepsut still rules!: Gorgeous Atilladjeannot on August 12th, 2007 04:27 pm (UTC)
It's definitely like a stalker...someone who is obnoxious, offensive and unrelenting in their insistence on making offensive, annoying, and aggravating comments. They glory in instigating and perpetuating internet arguments and embroilments (flaming). They can often engage in downright calumny and harrassment, which can culminate in complaints to moderators, and even service providers and the FCC.
Crazy Cheeky Girly Geekgreeneyedmissy on August 12th, 2007 06:23 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. Yep, I've experienced a few of those through my years on the net. The word troll does seem to fit. ;)
